Medical Treatment of Students

For students of the Faculty of Medicine

A general health insurance valid for Hungary is a requirement for registration for each semester at the University of Szeged. The insurance needs to provide full coverage for all eventualities, therefore eg. life or accident insurances are not acceptable.

GENERALI STUDIUM HEALTH INSURANCE ACQUISITION PROCESS VALID FOR THE 2019/2020 ACADEMIC YEAR

The Generali Studium Health Insurance is included in the tuition fee of those students who started their studies in or after the academic year 2015/2016.

Upper year students can contract the Generali Studium Insurance or they need to submit either an international health insurance or the EHIC card at the Foreign Students’ Secretariat.

Types of insurances accepted by the University

• Generali Studium Health Insurance (offered by the University of Szeged)

For details on the insurance coverage and health care service please check the following link: http://www.u-szeged.hu/gs

Upper year students whose tuition fee does not include the fee for the Generali Studium health insurance can request the health insurance through the Modulo system (Submission >> Students' Service Office >> Request for Generali Studium health insurance.) The fee for the health insurance is 34 000 HUF.

• International Health Insurance

International health insurances are only acceptable if they offer full coverage in Hungary. The insurance is usually contracted in the student's home country.

The costs of medical treatments have to be paid by the student. Refund of the costs is to be claimed retrospectively from the student’s insurance company.

• European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

According to the European Union law, citizens from EEA countries are subjects of free medical care (or at reduced cost) in emergency cases or if treatment becomes necessary during their visit abroad (for example, due to illness or an accident), provided they have a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) at hand from an EEA member home country.

The EHIC can only be used in the framework of public health care provision. Medical treatment is only offered by surgeries contracted with the Országos Egészségbiztosítási Pénztár (OEP).

For additional information on insurance coverage please visit the following website: http://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=858&langId=en

Primary Care

Students have to turn to the designated health care provider, or in case not a GP but a specialist needs to be consulted urgently, they can turn directly to the clinic concerned.

1. For students holding a Studium insurance or international health insurance

For details on the insurance coverage and health care service please check the following link: http://www.u-szeged.hu/gs

If you are ill, you must first register for a GP visit and book an appointment through the Modulo system (Submission >> Students' Service Office >> Generali Studium book an appointment to the family doctor.)

The GP is not able to provide care to students not registering in advance through Modulo.

2. For students holding a European Health Insurance Card

Primary care is provided by the general practitioner designated to the district of residence.

You can check who your designated general practicinoer is on the following website: https://www.szegedvaros.hu/haziorvosok/

Secondary Care

Secondary care of all students (regardless of the type of insurance) is provided at the clinics of the Albert Szent-Györgyi Clinical Center*. In each case students need to contact the central reception first (BETEGFELVÉTEL).
