Dean's Welcome

I would like to personally welcome you to investigate the Béla Bartók Faculty of Arts at the University of Szeged which dates back over 125 years and is one of leading higher education institutions in Hungary. We offer our students from abroad not only a deep history, but offer one of the richest musical legacy’s throughout Europe. Please explore our Faculty and all it has to offer.

The University of Szeged – Béla Bartók Faculty of Arts has an outstanding international reputation and is well noted for its musical excellence. Our Faculty traces its roots back to 1883 and was led by composer and musician Endre Szögi and today our faculty and students regularly perform throughout Europe, North America and throughout the world.

The University is situated in City of Szeged (the fourth largest city in Hungary) has many ties to great masters and noted musicians, such as Franz Liszt who spent many years studying here, Béla Bartók who debuted as a composer here in 1910, Zoltán Kodály who was born just 50 miles away, renowned conductor Ferenc Fricsay, pianist György Sebők and pianist/composer Jenő Huszka to name but a few…

The Béla Bartók Faculty of Arts had operated as part of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music until 1998; and soon after became the 11th faculty of the University of Szeged. The performance venues available to our students include; the Fricsay Ferenc Concert Hall, Liszt Ferenc Chamber Hall as well as student access the Reök Palace and the National Theater of Szeged.

In addition to offering Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Performance as well as Music Education, our International Performing Faculty ensures that the long legacy and rich traditions of Hungarian music is carried on.

Once again, I invite you to learn more about our vibrant Student and City life, our Faculty (which include Departments for Piano, String, Woodwind, Brass, Voice and Music Theory).
